Biography
About Alex Mayon
Recognized by his "powerful tone" and "effortless performance" (International Trumpet Guild), Alex Mayon is currently the Acting Principal Trumpet of the Utah Symphony and also a Yamaha Perfoming Artist. Before moving to Utah, Alex was Principal Trumpet of the Louisiana Philharmonic from 2021-2025. He recently performed as Acting Principal Trumpet with the Britt Festival Orchestra for their 2025 season. Mr. Mayon has performed with the London Symphony, Arizona MusicFest Festival Orchestra, New World Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Mobile Symphony, Meridian Symphony, and Baton Rouge Symphony.

During the summer, Alex has attended Music Academy of the West, Maverick Concerts, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, Chosen Vale, and Music Inspire Africa. He was the winner of the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition, a winner of the Keston Music Academy Exchange program, and two-time winner of the Loyola University Concerto/Aria Competition.
Alex holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Loyola University New Orleans. His previous teachers include James Thompson, Barbara Butler, Charlie Geyer, Paul Merkelo, and Dr. Nick Volz. Aside from trumpet, Alex enjoys hiking, painting, traveling, and spending time with his wife Nicole and orange tabby cat Gus Gus.
